The free function plugin "HDR" for cPicture can combine several pictures taking at different exposure levels using the "enfuse" program.
No complicated settings and fully automated. Unlike different complicated HDR software, you only select the pictures and the plugin is doing the rest.

Example:
In the following example the first picture is correctly exposed for the interior, but leaves the bright window areas over exposed.
The second picture is correctly exposed for the window area but leaves the interior under exposed.

The function plugin "HDR" combines the two pictures to create a single picture with correctly exposed areas:

Are your backups without errors?
Have you ever checked your backups?
You have all your pictures on a CD/DVD or backup drive, but how do you make sure they are actually OK and not broken? Quite often a picture file gets broken because of a faulty drive or storage media and maybe you keep making backups of these broken pictures.

One solution is to view all pictures in fullscreen and check each one. But there is a better way.

The steps are very easy:
Instead of first selecting the pictures, you can now specify the folders/drives directly.

Step 1:

Select "Check pictures" from the start menu.

Step 2:

By default, the current folder is pre-selected. Change if necessary.

Step 3:

The Picture check is launched as a task and progress is displayed in the task section.

Step 4:

Once the check finish, a dialog is display with the error result or an OK message.

Lossless splitting

The lossless splitting is lossless JPEG feature in addition to the lossless crop in cPicture.

Select the picture and click on the start menu entry (menu entry "Picture task") on "Split panorama".

This feature is one of the most used features used in the panoramic world to print sections of a large panoramic picture!

Select the aspect ratio and the number of rows to split the picture.
All individual pictures will be stored in the supplied folder with a sequence number.
Print these individual pictures to get a huge wall paper for example.

The split is done without recompressing the picture!

No loss in quality or need to choose a compression setting!

You can even specify a horizontal/vertical overlap to account for the glueing area.

With the Landscape mode you can match the orientation.

Fisheye MC Zenitar-N 16mm f/2.8 Lens

The Zenitar 16mm f/2.8 is a manual focus/aperture full frame fisheye lens manufactured in Krasnogorsk/Russia. The full frame (the covered rectangle of the projected image circle) covers 180 degree FOV in diagonal on 35mm. The lens is available for different mounts (M42, Nikon, Canon, ...). Zenitar-N is the model with a built-in Nikon F-mount and that is the model I ordered:

But there was problem. The lens didn't focused to infinity. Instead the lens focused from 0.05m to about 1m. The picture were really sharp there, almost like a macro, but no one needs a fisheye macro. Sending back the lens? I already waited three weeks and being an engineer...

Why does the lens doesn't focus at infinity?
For some reason the distance settings ring wasn't aligned with the lens setting. Infinity for the distance ring didn't match the position for the internal lens ring. See the left drawing. With the wrong aligned distance ring, the distance range of the lens is shifted from 0.3m-infinity to 0.05m-1m.

How to fix this?
The distance ring needs to be aligned with the internal lens ring to allow the lens to be focused to infinity. This is illustrated in the right drawing. With the new aligned distance ring, the infinity distance can now be set. The minimal distance moved up from the 0.05 to the 0.3m.

The first step is to move back the rubber ring of the distance ring. Do not use any sharp tools, just slide the rubber back on one side a little bit and go around in a few circles to move it back slowly. On the lens barrel you will see three small holes (every 120 degree around the barrel) with a very small screw inside.

There are also three very tiny holes for the lens hood. Be careful with the tiny screws. Choose a screwdriver that matches the size perfectly. Do not use one that is too small. You might break the screw. (You screw up the lens!).

To have the lens focus to infinity, the lens hood needs to be adjusted as well. When you rotate the distance ring to infinity, the lens barrel extents towards the lens hood and might be blocked there preventing the lens extending to the infinity setting.

Don't remove the screws holding the distance ring. Just unscrew until the distance ring moves without being attached to the internal ring. Rotate the distance ring towards a smaller distance and tight the screws just to move the internal ring towards infinity. Look at the illustration above. You are moving the outer distance ring to shift the internal distance ring.
For the lens I received the infinity settings was exactly at the stop position of the internal distance ring. I had to move the ring as much as possible towards the infinity setting and the adjust the outer distance ring to match the red mark with the infinity symbol.
Once this is done, carefully tight the screws and slide the rubber ring back.

The Nikon D-50 for example cannot meter with this lens and the internal flash is disabled. You need to use the manual setting, set the exposure time manually and use an external flash (SB600/800) set to manual mode if you want to use a flash. At f/5.6 the lens seems to have an optimal aperture.

The second addition for this update is a new menu entry for the load/save of EXIF. This makes the transfer of EXIF simpler. In the previous version this was only possible in the picture data view.

cPicture 1.6.5 also uses an updated plugin interface. The Raw and TIFF/PNG plugin were also updated.

Please note that the settings for the raw plugin changed and need to be reset for the first usage. Right click on a picture and select the format porperties.

Copy the cpp_raw.dll to the same folder where you copied cPicture.exe to use the plugin. The latest command line version of dcraw.exe is also available.

Creating webpages

is very easy. Just follow these simple steps to create your own picture page on the internet:

Step 1

Select the folder containing your pictures and select Create a HTML page from the start menu:

Step 2

Select a folder where to store the webpages and pictures
Enter a title, for example Summer vacation
Specify how many Pictures per row and how many Rows per Page
(Enter a '0' in Rows per Page to have all pictures on one page)

Step 3

Optionally you can set the size of the linked picture and if you want to link to the original picture:

Click OK and then the button Create a HTML page.

Step 4

Upload the content of the folder specified in Step 2 to your webserver.

Picture CD

Create a picture CD!

All you need is to add cPicture.exe and autorun.inf to the CD layout along with your pictures.

Put both files to the top folder in your CD layout:

Now when you insert the CD to a computer, all pictures will be displayed in a slideshow! Press the ESC key to stop the slideshow.

Because cPicture doesn't need any installation, the slideshow runs without any interaction and does not leave any files on the computer.
